The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) announced it is extending the deadline for eligible clinicians to submit their 2023 Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance data in response to the Change Healthcare cybersecurity attack. The 2023 MIPS data submission window opened on January 2 and was initially scheduled to close on April 1. Clinicians will now have until April 15 to submit 2023 data. MIPS-eligible clinicians who fail to submit 2023 data could be subject to up to a 9% Medicare payment cut in 2025.
More information about participating in MIPS can be found on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website, including the following materials, which are available through the QPP Resource Library:

- Quality Payment Program Access User Guide
The American Medical Association also recently sent a letter to CMS asking the agency to offer MIPS hardship exceptions for clinicians impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack. CMS has not yet announced any decisions related to extending these hardship exceptions.
