Neurosurgery Comments on Draft Coverage Policy for Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring

On Sept. 24, the AANS, CNS and AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves sent a letter in response to a North American Spine Society (NASS) draft coverage policy for Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) in spine surgery. Neurosurgery generally agreed with the NASS draft proposal but emphasized that oversight of IONM should be limited to physicians, as supported by American Medical Association and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services policy.
