Re: Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation (PVA) for Vertebral Compression
Fracture (VCF) (DL35130)

To Whom It May Concern:On behalf of representatives of twelve medical specialty societies, comprising physicians
who utilize and/or perform percutaneous vertebral augmentation procedures, we would
like to take this opportunity to share comments regarding Novitas’ Proposed Local
Coverage Determination for Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation for Vertebral
Compression Fracture (DL35130). We have significant concerns with the proposed LCD’s
exclusion from treatment all fractures over six weeks old and the requirement of a
multidisciplinary team. Below, we have suggested revisions to the covered indications and
exclusions/limitations sections, consistent with recommendations we have made to
Palmetto, CGS, NGS, and WPS in response to their proposed LCDs last fall.
