In May, the AANS and the CNS sent a letter of support for S. 1653, the Prevent Blood Loss with Emergency Equipment Devices Act. Introduced by Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and John Boozman, OD, (R-Ark.), this legislation would expand access to life-saving bleeding control kits in schools, malls, houses of worship, libraries and other gathering places in communities across the country. By authorizing a new grant program with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, this funding would provide quick access to the resources people need to stop severe bleeding during a medical emergency.
