Subject: S. 1653, the Prevent Blood Loss with Emergency Equipment Devices (BLEEDing) Act

Dear Senators Menendez and Boozman:

On behalf of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), representing more than 4,000 practicing neurosurgeons in the United States, we write to support your legislation, S. 1653, the Prevent Blood Loss with Emergency Equipment Devices (BLEEDing) Act. We appreciate and applaud your efforts to expand access to life-saving bleeding control kits in schools,
malls, houses of worship, libraries, and other gathering places in communities across the country.

Neurosurgeons have long been involved in emergency and trauma care and support your efforts to provide quick access to the resources people need to stop severe bleeding during a medical emergency. We, therefore, welcome this funding to authorize a new grant program with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.

Thank you for your continued leadership on this issue. We look forward to working with you to move this bill through the legislative process. In the meantime, please contact us if you have any questions or need additional information.
