Recently, the AANS and the CNS joined a coalition of groups in letters to payors, including Humana, Evercore, and Cigna, to urge them to reverse their coverage policies characterizing closed-loop spinal cord neurostimulators as “experimental, investigational, and/or unproven.” Evicore and Cigna both revised their policies earlier this year, and Humana followed suit with their Medicare Advantage plans but left restrictive language in place for Humana’s commercial coverage policies. On Oct. 9, the AANS and the CNS joined a coalition letter to Humana urging them to remove the restrictive language from their commercial policies as well.
