Become an AANS Member Today

Eligibility for candidacy as an international member extends to aspiring medical professionals pursuing their Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degrees within the United States, Canada or Mexico. Candidates must be actively enrolled as residents or fellows in training programs.

This inclusive criterion reflects our commitment to fostering the development of future leaders in the medical field across North America. We aim to cultivate a diverse and dynamic community of professionals dedicated to advancing the standards of medical care and research.

Membership Requirements

  • Reside/practice outside of North America
  • Maintain board certification (or equivalent) in country of residence
  • Letter of sponsorship from one AANS member
    Note: The AANS can assist in identifying a member sponsor
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    *All documents must be submitted in English

Member Obligations

  • Pay Annual Dues:
    • $230 in most non-North American countries
    • Discounted dues of $110 for countries designated low-income or lower-middle income by the World Bank. View the list here.
  • Optional, discounted paper subscription to the Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine and Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics for $250

Before beginning your member application, please have the following information ready:

  • Payment method for application fee/first-year dues.
    • Dues may be paid via credit/debit card via the link below.
    • To pay by wire transfer, please contact memberservices@aans.org for instructions.
  • Dates of attendance and names of medical school and residency programs
  • Current employer and start date
  • Country where you currently hold your medical license, the license number and effective dates
  • Proof of certification
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Letter of Sponsorship from one AANS member.
    Note: The AANS can assist in identifying a member sponsor.
    *All documents must be submitted in English

Upon completion of your application and remittance of membership fee, you will have immediate access to AANS member benefits.
